Peace Amidst Chaos
At times, this feels impossible
Rest. As I write this, I am aware of a feeling of defeat.
How are we all doing at this "rest" thing? If you're like me, probably not very good. Can we help each other out? Share some ideas for true rest- for the body, mind, and soul?
My days have been looking something like this— sleep 5 hours. Wake up— maybe get in a yoga class, maybe press snooze. Rush to get kids ready for school. Rush to get self ready for work. Listen to podcast while digging around searching for clean clothes. Trying to remember to connect with friends, and with my husband while he's super busy, too. Laundry. Return emails, feels like thousands of them, and the million texts. Take kids to doctor, try and to pick kids up from school on time. Pay bills. Transfer money. Stay super present for everyone- righttttt? Dentist appointments, well checks, wash car, parent teacher conferences, make sure kids get homework done, make sure my reading is done, groceries, cook dinner, nope- we're going out... Seriously. What? This is only a part of the busyness, and I know you all are in it, too! Don't get me wrong, I am beyond grateful for every single thing, every detail. But l'm curious? How do we rest with our busy lives?
I'd love to hear your strategies, and I'll share some of mine:
I've come to learn that everything always gets done "enough" and there is no perfect. Ever. This one is big—
I know that peace is available in the chaos.
Sometimes we need to just close our eyes for a minute. Breathe.
Our breath has the power to calm our minds, and nervous systems down so that we can enjoy the moment. And gratitude? The house is a mess, but I hear my kids laughing. Not bad. Grateful for even the hard stuff? Yes. This is where we grow. And, prayer. God, even here, you are with me. I repeat this over and over throughout my day. I nap when I can, or sometimes spontaneous dance. Massages. Talking to a friend. Having something to look forward to...
These things give me a little rest.
What's in your bag of tricks?
